Greece and Athens are proud of their 15 international airport. The new and modern one is ELEFTHERIOS VENIZELOS Airport of Athens. The airport is located 30 km northeast of the Center of Athens (Downtown). The services provided can be compared to the fines airports of the world. Maximum security is the major concern.
Public Transportation to and from the airport is provided on a 24 hours basis, by express bus connections with Athens center and the Port of Piraeus ( heading to all the islands).
There are Three bus itineraries dedicated to carry passengers to and from the airport. The cost of this ticket is 3 Euro per person per way:
- Line E94 : Connects with the Ethniki Amyna metro station (near the downtown) with the airport from 7:00 am until 23: 00 every 30 minutes.
- Line E95: Connects Syntagma Square (Parliament Square in the downtown) with the airport on average every half an hour, on a 24h service.
- Line E96: Connects Piraeus Port (Kariskaki Square) 24 hours service on average every half an hour.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
Price of the tickets:
- 1.40 euro for normal passenger, can be used for 1h 30 min. (90 min)
- 0.70 cent of euro for students passenger, can be used for 1h30 min. (90 min).
- 8 euro only if you are going by the metro to the airport.
You can find tickets for a whole day or for some days that can be cheaper depending on how many times you are using the transportation.When you buy a Ticket from any public transportation, it can be used for all public transportation including: Metro, Train, Bus, Trolleys, Tram and Railways.
The Athens Metro: It provides access to historical sites, Piraeus Port, the airport and many other connections lines in all Athens. Tickets are bought through Automatic Ticket Machines installed at all Metro Stations or Ticket Offices. Before going on board, passengers need to validate their ticket through special validation machines.

TAXI: They are yellow in Greece. You can stop the cap by simply raising a hand or go to a Taxi stands located everywhere in Athens. You may have passengers inside already, as it is common to share taxis.
For a 5 km ride it is 6 Euro, for a 10 km it's about 11 euro (depending on traffic). But in all cases, the amount of the fare paid for a taxi ride is the amount written on the meter in front of you ( beside the driver).
Extra charges apply after midnight 12:00, for luggage carried and Pre-booked Taxi.
BUS: Busses and Trolleys have frequent schedules from 5:00 am until 12:00 midnight for all places in Athens and the suburbs. Tickets of Busses while you're walking in the street can be purchased at most newspapers KIOSKS (named "periptero"). Upon entering the bus you must validate your ticket at one of the validation machines. The bus schedules vary according to the destination between 10 min to 30 min.
PORT:
Piraeus port is one of the largest ports in Europe and the largest one in Greece. It's the starting point for all the routes. Thousands of people use it to arrive to numerous islands during the summer months. The port ( as before mentioned) can be accessed by all major transportation services. From the Train station the Green Line is the easiest way.
Rafina Port is the second largest in Athens. It is build for residents of the North East areas of Athens. However to arrive there is only by taxi or by a public bus every half an hour from the center of Athens in Pedion tou Areos park in Victoria train station. The departures of boats from Rafina port are only to below Islands: Andros, Lesvos, Limnos, Mykonos, Syros and Tinos.
It is both cheap and easy to travel around the islands. Tickets can be bought from the shipping lines' offices located around the harbors or online. During high season it is wise to buy tickets in advance. There are two classes of tickets ( First Class and Economy).
Driving: Driving in Athens is a right. In order to drive you need to have with you an International driving permit. Driving is not very difficult, it you are used to the Mediterranean way.Most of the road signs are both in English and Greek Language. Seatbelts are compulsory by law for all passengers.
